The BIM Manager's Handbook: Guidance for Professionals in Architecture, Engineering and Construction So I'm not usually a fan of reading books, but these days I've been going all out. I've been reading "The BIM Manager's Handbook: Guidance for Professionals in Architecture, Engineering and Construction, by Dominic Holzer" I must say its a hell of a read and really defines the rules of BIM and how BIM has been implemented in the AEC industry. I would definitely recommend this if you want to get a good understanding in BIM, whether you want to become a BIM Manager or just an employee in the AEC and want to gain understanding. They always ask. What is construction sequencing? what is 4D? Here is your answer. 4D BIM adds an extra dimension of information to a project information model in the form of scheduling data. This data is added to components which will build in detail as the project progresses. This information can be used to obtain accurate programme information and visualisations showing how your project will develop sequentially.   Time-related information for a particular element might include information on lead time, how long it takes to install/construct, the time needed to become operational/harden/cure, the sequence in which components should be installed, and dependencies on other areas of the project.

A further understanding to 2D and 3D BIM.  Firstly, we have started off with 2d.     2D, as we know it on paper. That is the X,Y axis. This hand drawing, this is auto cad.    The third dimension 3D, Is the addition of adding the Z axis.    3D BIM is perhaps the BIM we are most familiar with - the process of creating graphical and non-graphical information and sharing this information in a Common Data Environment (CDE).   As the project lifecycle progresses this information becomes ever more rich in detail until the point at which the project data is handed over to a client at completion.   

The confusion is real. The other day I had a customer come and enquire about Level 5 BIM?? I mean really.. I said what do mean about Level 5 BIM, he said I want costing.. So I thought i'd create a video about the different dimensions of BIM

Good Evening ,  I receive many questions on managing client expectations and effectively communicating to clients BIM status. Communicating to client / stakeholders where they stand on BIM can sometimes be an issue, if the client is not well BIM educated. What exactly do you communicate with the client? Is it how many attributes are in the model? LOD? Is the design team meeting the requirements set in the EIR or bim execution plan? Or that doesn't really matter, all procedures appear to be nonsense to stakeholders and they only want to see one result...and that is, is the design coordinated or not.  Now to get to this stage, one must come up with a clever solution to provide feedback on the design and models through a clever system, that's goes through a series of checks. Not just geometry but level of information existing in the model as well.  Simply a traffic light system attached with scores, if you apply the system to incoming design mode...

Good Evening, One of the most asked questions I get from clients all of the time...What's the best way to turn BIM models in to the most efficient use for FM. Clients spend a lot of time, money and effort in BIM. How can clients be empowered to gain benefits after all of the design and construction benefits are reaped? Generally, FM should be thought about from the outset, while thinking about design and construction. The key questions should really be: - How will I maintain this building? - What platform should be used for the rest of the building life cycle? - Typically who should be maintaining?
